Job Summary

Staff Physician in Geriatrics & Extended Care responsible for the quality of care and program productivity, and for developing/implementing initiatives to meet VCBHCS mission. Responsibilities include taking patient histories, performing physical exams, formulating diagnoses, developing treatment plans per guidelines and patient goals, coordinating disposition across ED, hospital, skilled facilities, home health, and hospice, ordering tests and tests, expediting specialty consults, and educating patients and families on preventive care and medications. Collaborates with other providers, supports onsite subspecialties, and participates in chart reviews, process improvements, credentialing/privileging, and cross-coverage within GEC services. Ensures timely documentation in CPRS, maintains competencies, oversees delegated care activities, and communicates care plans with the team. Adheres to infection control, provides timely consultations, and supports timely care across clinical GEC services. VA total rewards package and comprehensive benefits available.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO medical degree
  • 1 full and unrestricted medical license from any US state or territory
  • Ability to practice medicine in the US (federal and local regulatory compliance)
  • Proven clinical experience in geriatrics or extended care settings
  • Competence in chart reviews, CPRS documentation, and coordination of care across multiple services
  • Ability to provide education and counseling to patients and families
  • Capability to supervise or coordinate care with Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants
  • Experience with clinical governance, quality improvement, and process improvement initiatives
  • Participation in on-site or community-based subspecialty services as needed
  • Ability to collaborate with VA staff and external providers for consults and coverage
  • Commitment to meeting licensure and credentialing requirements
  • Strong communication skills for team leadership and patient outcomes reporting
