Job Summary

Greet and guide patients to examination rooms while maintaining a smooth flow of visits. Document history and testing information accurately, updating medical records with lab results and outside records. Summarize exam details from physicians into electronic charts, including chief complaints, assessments, and treatment recommendations. Assist physicians during exams and minor surgical procedures, ensuring patients understand verbal and written instructions. Coordinate patient care with co-managing specialists and laboratories, handling physician correspondence via secure emails checked twice daily. E-prescribe medications as directed and ensure billing codes match diagnoses. Work Monday through Friday between 6:30am and 6:30pm with weekly schedules based on provider needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience as an Ophthalmic Scribe
  • Valid CPR certification
  • Basic understanding of algebraic principles
  • Basic to advanced computer skills
  • Ability to spell accurately while charting
  • Must be able to move frequently from standing and sitting depending on exam room configuration during clinic sessions
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting
  • Must be able to hear softly spoken words
  • Must be able to add support for patients getting in and out of exam chairs
  • Lifting required up to 30 pounds
  • Regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers
  • Open availability to work, including early mornings and late evenings
  • Must be able to travel to various clinics
  • Must be able to communicate effectively
  • Must be highly organized to work in a fast-paced environment

Desired Qualifications

  • College degree preferred
  • Completion of medical terminology and/or ophthalmic terminology courses
  • Scribe certification (preferably Certified Ophthalmic Assistant and/or Ophthalmic Scribe Certification) preferred, should obtain within 6 months
  • Experience with electronic medical records preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong, professional interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
