Job Summary
Physician provides professional medical direction, oversight and direct patient care in an institutional correctional setting. Responsibilities include performing examinations, diagnosing medical problems, prescribing medications, providing treatment and follow-up care, leading the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor, monitoring care standards, interviewing inmates, conducting clinical rounds, participating in treatment team meetings, directing unit treatment operations, and ensuring compliance with policies. The role may involve minor to occasional major surgical procedures, on-call duties, maintaining medical records with confidentiality, and coordinating with facility staff, contract providers, and external providers. Accreditation activities (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) and efforts to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of health-related services are also included. Must maintain licensure, drive as required, and meet the age requirement; a drug-free workplace is acknowledged by CoreCivic.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited school of medicine.
- Must be licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
