Job Summary
Physician provides professional medical direction and direct patient care in a correctional facility, including examinations, diagnosing conditions, prescribing medications, and follow-up care. Leads the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor, participates in treatment team meetings, conducts clinical rounds, direct unit medical operations, and may perform minor or occasional major surgery. Offers clinics for nursing specialists, maintains medical records with confidentiality, supports accreditation efforts (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO), and participates in on-call coverage. Requires strong coordination with facility staff, contract providers, and outside agencies, along with adherence to policies and sound independent judgment in meeting duties. Must be licensed to practice medicine in the employing state and possess a valid driver’s license; age minimum 18.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited school of medicine.
- Must be licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment.
- A valid driver's license is required.
