Job Summary
Conduct routine and sick-call examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and document all patient care accurately according to NCCHC, ACA, and state standards. Supervise the Medical Unit, develop healthcare policies, and prescribe medications within approved guidelines while collaborating with correctional staff and administrative leadership. Provide 24-hour on-call coverage for nursing staff and detainee care, working nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Maintain security clearances, adhere to infection control and HIPAA regulations, and participate in ongoing quality improvement activities to ensure compliance with contractual and accreditation standards.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
- Completion of a U.S.-based residency program
- Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of the assigned facility
- Active and unrestricted prescriptive authority with DEA and Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) registrations
- Minimum of two years of public health experience
- Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and decision-making skills
- Assertive, empathetic, and objective approach to patient care
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Electronic Health Records (EHR)
- Ability to command respect and confidence of both inmates and staff
- Active CPR certification
- Ability to pass all required health screenings and security clearances
- Ability to communicate and understand written and verbal communication
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
