Job Summary

Deliver comprehensive health care to a diverse Veteran population by obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, and ordering or conducting preventive and diagnostic procedures. Formulate individualized treatment plans, establish priorities for interventions, and implement pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies consistent with current clinical guidelines. Provide ongoing inpatient and outpatient care, including making rounds to observe patient progress, updating medical records, and managing acute and chronic illnesses. Develop patient education plans, obtain informed consent, and make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and community agencies. Work full-time Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm as a resource for the Eastern Kansas Health Care System–Leavenworth campus.

Required Qualifications

  • 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
  • Board certification (implied by CME reimbursement condition)
  • Full-time employment status (implied by CME reimbursement condition)
  • Current knowledge of advance pharmacology and therapeutics
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in the diagnostic process
  • Ability to synthesize and analyze collected data
  • Ability to formulate differential diagnosis based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results
  • Ability to establish priorities to meet the health needs of the Veteran
  • Ability to formulate individualized treatment plan
  • Ability to select appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions
  • Ability to develop a patient education plan
  • Ability to initiate consultation/referral as indicated
  • Ability to establish priorities for interventions
  • Ability to provide individualized care appropriate to meet Veterans identified needs
  • Ability to implement interventions consistent with treatment plan
  • Ability to initiate interventions based on scientific principles, current knowledge, and level of clinical expertise
  • Ability to order, conduct and interpret diagnostic tests accurately
  • Ability to prescribe specific pharmacologic agents and/or nonpharmacologic therapies as indicated
  • Ability to follow any standardized procedures accordingly
  • Ability to implement current clinical guidelines/pathways
  • Ability to make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and community agencies
  • Ability to participate in peer reviews as assigned
  • Ability to utilize appropriate health care resources
  • Ability to obtain informed consent when appropriate
  • Ability to maintain a process for systematic follow-up
  • Ability to evaluate effectiveness of treatment plan promptly
  • Ability to document effects of interventions and outcomes of care in the patient record accurately
  • Ability to reassess and modify plan as necessary to achieve health care goals
  • Ability to serve on committees, teams, workgroups, and chart reviews as requested/approved by administration
  • Ability to complete all training as mandated by VA
  • Ability to provide ongoing inpatient or outpatient care for patients in the Physicians assigned clinical setting
  • Ability to make inpatient rounds, as appropriate, to observe and record each patient's medical progress, updating and summarizing medical records, changing orders when appropriate, and notifying the responsible physician of significant changes in the patient's condition
  • Ability to evaluate outpatients and manage acute and chronic illnesses according to the usual scope of care to include attention to maintenance of stable conditions, preventive health care and screening
  • Ability to consult with other physician(s) regarding diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of outpatients as indicated
  • Consideration for differences in cultural, socio-economic, military service and age-specific criteria
