Job Summary
Assist cardiothoracic surgeons during complex cardiac procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair, and open-heart surgeries. Perform tissue handling tasks such as making incisions, retracting, dissecting, and providing hemostasis while routinely closing chest and leg soft tissue layers. Conduct endoscopic or open harvesting of the saphenous and radial arteries for bypass procedures and assist with cannulation, graft anastomosis, and femoral access catheters. Transport patients from the operating room to the CVSICU or PACU. Requires four 10-hour clinical daytime shifts weekly with on-call availability for urgent procedures. Candidates must have at least two years of direct cardiac surgery experience and proficiency in endovascular vein harvest.
Required Qualifications
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program or Masters or Doctorate in Nursing, Acute Care NP
- Certification as a Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Cardiac Surgery OR experience, at least 2 years, required
- Proficiency in performing endovascular vein harvest is required
- Four 10-hour clinical daytime shifts/week
- On-call requirement during non-routine working hours to assist attending physicians in urgent and emergency procedures
Desired Qualifications
- Candidates with less than one year of experience who have completed an accredited cardiac surgery PA residency/fellowship program will be considered
