Job Summary
Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner needed to join Northwestern Medicine’s Medical Oncology and Hematology team in an ambulatory setting. Expect to care for a patient population with a daily volume of about 10–12 patients, working Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm, at McHenry and Huntley Hospitals. No on-call, weekends, or holidays. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive health assessments, providing direct clinical care, prescribing medications and ordering tests, educating patients and families, mentoring students, participating in quality improvement and/or research, and maintaining licensure and credentials. Requires a Master’s degree in nursing or PA program, Illinois RN and APRN/PA licensure, MSO privileging, BLS and ACLS certifications, DEA and controlled substance licensing, and ongoing professional development and teaching activities. The role emphasizes professional presentation, patient advocacy, collaboration with physicians and health professionals, and participation in departmental committees and staff education.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois
- Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois OR Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program/Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board
- Privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO)
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (issued by the American Heart Association)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Controlled substance license and DEA registration
- POssessed licensure and privileges for clinical practice per department requirements
