Job Summary
Conduct high-acuity inpatient care for adult patients on the Medical Stepdown Unit, performing initial assessments, formulating diagnoses, and implementing treatment plans. Order and interpret tests, manage complex medical conditions requiring continuous monitoring, and stabilize patients at risk for clinical deterioration. Collaborate with Critical Care Medicine and specialists to promote safe transitions of care and prevent ICU readmissions. Provide emergency medical care including Code 64 management, perform procedures such as IVs and catheter removal, and document all care in accordance with hospital policy.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a PA program accredited by The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, or its predecessor
- Current NCCPA certification
- Current New York State license as Registered Physician Assistant
- Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association
- Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP or AGACNP) certification
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- NCCPA certification
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics
- Advanced knowledge of critical care physiology and pathophysiology
- Expertise in management of respiratory, cardiovascular, infectious, and metabolic emergencies
- Strong procedural and bedside ultrasound skills
- Ability to independently assess and manage high-acuity patients
- Expertise in ventilatory support and hemodynamic monitoring
- Excellent interdisciplinary communication and leadership skills
- Ability to function effectively in high-stress clinical environments
