Job Summary
Provide medical and surgical services within an assigned clinic and inpatient unit under the direction of a physician. Conduct daily rounds to assess patients, perform physical exams, write orders, and document notes. Order and interpret laboratory tests and radiological examinations while recognizing and evaluating patients requiring immediate attention or emergency treatment. Assist in surgical procedures in the emergency, clinic, and operating room, and perform minor surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures consistent with the Practice Description. Coordinate discharge planning, arrange sub-specialty follow-up, and manage outpatient medications and therapy referrals. Evaluate patients in specialty outpatient clinics, interview patients and families, and present cases with recommendations to supervising physicians. Document and bill for services promptly with appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes to facilitate hospital billing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Successful completion of a PA program accredited by Committee on Allied Health, Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA)
- Successful completion of a PA program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
- Successful completion of a PA program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on the Education of the PA (ARC-PA)
- Experience in direct patient management
- Experience in the surgical or medical subspecialty of the department one is hired into
- Surgical assisting experience
- Knowledge of acute and chronic disease states
- Knowledge of administration and prescription of medications
- Knowledge of delivering physical care following treatment plan
- Current applicable state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant
- Ability to obtain licensure upon date of hire
- Current BLS for Providers from the American Heart Association
- Current PALS from the American Heart Association
- Ability to submit information necessary to complete a National Practitioner Data Base search and meet Legacy's standards for results
