Job Summary
Assist surgeons in the operating room as a first assist during general surgical procedures, conduct patient histories and physical examinations, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with supervising surgeons. Manage inpatient surgical patients through admissions, consultations, and daily rounds while ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies. Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures and recovery expectations, perform bedside procedures within scope of practice, and maintain accurate documentation within the electronic health record. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated patient care in a collaborative environment focused on quality outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Eligible for or holding an active Alabama Physician Assistant license
- Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain
- Current BLS certification required
- Strong clinical, communication, and teamwork skills required
Desired Qualifications
- Previous surgical or general surgery experience preferred
- New graduates with strong surgical rotations may be considered
- ACLS certification preferred
