Job Summary
Conduct operating room first assist, inpatient rounding, and preoperative/postoperative patient management for general surgery cases. Evaluate patients, manage surgical consults, and perform bedside procedures such as wound care and suturing. Collaborate with surgeons, residents, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans and ensure optimal surgical outcomes. Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic health record and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Provide education and counseling to patients and families while adhering to Alabama licensure requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Board-Certified Physician Assistant
- Active Alabama PA license or eligibility to obtain
- Minimum 1–2 years of surgical experience required
- Strong OR first-assist capabilities
- Excellent procedural competency and clinical judgment
- Ability to multitask effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
Desired Qualifications
- Surgical experience is required — inpatient, OR, and procedural exposure strongly preferred
- Prior experience in general surgery, surgical subspecialties, or hospital-based roles strongly preferred
- BLS and ACLS certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- Exceptional communication and team collaboration skills
- Professional, patient-centered approach to care
