Job Summary
Oversee the planning, initiation, and administration of a categorical ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency training program, leading and managing operations in accordance with accreditation requirements. Develop and evaluate educational programs to enhance resident learning, while mentoring residents, faculty, and staff in professional development. Ensure the program meets accreditation standards and institutional policies, and foster collaboration with clinical departments to expand perioperative opportunities. Approve faculty members at participating sites and maintain a sufficient number of competent instructors. Engage in scholarly activities, including research and publications, and represent the program at national and regional meetings. Provide a confidential environment for residents to raise concerns and report mistreatment.
Required Qualifications
- Board certification in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) or the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology
- Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona
- Eligibility for medical staff membership at Banner - University Medical Center- Phoenix
- Eligibility for a University of Arizona academic appointment at the assistant professor level or higher
- Faculty experience, leadership, organizational, and administrative skills
- Ability to function effectively within an institutional governance
- Ongoing demonstration of academic achievements in anesthesiology, such as publications, the development of educational programs, or the conduct of research
- Ongoing clinical activity
- Ability to be a role model of professionalism
- Ability to administer and maintain a learning environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME Competency domains
- Experience with hospital partnership and collaboration
- Experience serving on safety and quality committees
- Skills in diplomacy, and the ability to influence decisions
- Ability to develop and maintain productive interpersonal relationships among medical staff members, departmental leaders/directors/managers and employees, university, health system and hospital administrators
- Ability to effectively deal and interact with a diverse population and to effectively handle interpersonal conflict
- A working knowledge of quality improvement processes
- The ability to speak publicly
- A working knowledge regarding contemporary adult learning techniques and methods
