Job Summary
Assist the Physical Therapist with resident-related activities and direct care, including treating residents as directed and improving mobility, strength, and overall function. Document treatments and progress accurately while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure timely updates regarding goals and discharge planning. Maintain a safe treatment environment by following infection control protocols, educating residents and families on safety techniques, and recommending durable medical equipment to facilitate independence. Participate in resident care conferences and rehabilitation meetings as needed, while contributing to quality assurance and facility program development. Communicate routinely with the nursing department to assist in training restorative aides.
Required Qualifications
- Physical Therapy Assistant Degree from an accredited college/university
- Valid, unencumbered South Carolina PTA license
- Associate Degree from an accredited PTA program
- Proficient in computer skills such as inputting data into programs such as Net Health and Point Click Care
- Ability to read technical procedures
- Ability to read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, coworkers and families
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to solve practical problems
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state
- Ability to maintain a license in good standing at all time with the state board
- CPR certification, if required by licensure
- Ability to stand and walk frequently
- Ability to sit occasionally
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed
- Ability to reach, push, pull, lift, and manipulate objects and equipment
- Ability to exertion that may occasionally exceed 100 pounds
- Ability to exertion that may frequently exceed 50 pounds
- Ability to exertion that may constantly exceed 20 pounds
- Ability to perceive and respond to environmental cues, including tactile, auditory, and visual information
- Ability to assist, support, and transport residents in accordance with safe resident handling practices
- Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents, families, staff, and professional colleagues
- Ability to effectively communicate, including talking and hearing
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of residents' information as well as company information
