Job Summary
Assess patients of all ages to evaluate specific needs and partner with families to set realistic goals. Provide hands-on therapy using targeted exercises and specialized equipment, adjusting approaches based on patient progress. Write clear progress notes and discharge summaries while collaborating with doctors and nurses on care plans. Educate patients and families about recovery processes to ensure safe self-management. Mentor PT students, aides, and volunteers by supervising them and sharing clinical knowledge. Requires an active New York State license, BLS certification, and a driver's license.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program
- An active New York State Physical Therapist license (or eligibility to get one) and a passed state exam
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) (or obtained at time of hire)
- A valid NYS Driver's License
- Solid understanding of physical therapy treatments and medical terminology
- Ability to evaluate clinical data and create clear recovery goals
- Confidence to make independent decisions
- Warm, clear style for explaining evaluation results to families
- Skill to instruct patients of all ages on safe movement and exercises
- Experience using computers and standard office or clinical documentation software
