Job Summary
Evaluate adult and geriatric patients and develop individualized treatment plans based on physician orders. Provide physical therapy services to restore function, improve mobility, reduce pain, and prevent disability through therapeutic exercise, gait training, and manual therapy. Conduct diagnostic assessments, supervise Physical Therapist Assistants, and educate patients on home exercise programs and adaptive equipment use. Modify treatment plans based on progress, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in interdisciplinary conferences and discharge planning. Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements while engaging in departmental meetings and continuing education.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy
- Valid state license to practice as a Physical Therapist
- Experience evaluating adult and geriatric patients
- Ability to develop individualized treatment plans based on physician orders
- Knowledge of therapeutic interventions including therapeutic exercise, gait training, transfer training, balance activities, neuromuscular re-education, manual therapy, and functional mobility training
- Ability to conduct diagnostic and prognostic assessments of muscle strength, joint mobility, balance, coordination, and functional abilities
- Experience supervising and directing Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) in accordance with state practice guidelines
- Ability to educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safe mobility techniques, posture, transfers, and the use of assistive devices
- Ability to recommend and train patients in the use of walkers, canes, crutches, wheelchairs, braces, and other adaptive equipment
- Ability to modify treatment plans based on patient progress and changing clinical needs
- Ability to maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record
- Ability to participate in interdisciplinary care conferences and discharge planning
- Knowledge of hospital policies, infection prevention standards, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory requirements
