Job Summary
Administer physical therapy treatments for disabilities, injuries, and diseases to relieve pain and restore motor function while working under limited supervision. Complete patient evaluations within 24 hours of physician orders and discharge forms upon discharge, documenting assessments and progress notes according to agency policy. Supervise treatments by PT Assistants and aides, instruct home care personnel on lifting techniques, and coordinate referrals to other health care team members. Attend monthly case conferences and staff meetings, maintain physical therapy skills inventory, and participate in performance improvement activities. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, The Joint Commission standards, and CMS regulations while maintaining a valid California Physical Therapy license and BLS certification.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree from four-year accredited college or university in physical therapy, or degree in a related field
- One to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A valid California drivers license when travel is required
- Current BLS course completion
- Current California Physical Therapy license, or eligible for registration
- Member of APTA preferred
- Evidence of automobile insurance when travel is required
- Able to organize and monitor the work of others
- Able to relate effectively with patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital/home health staff in a courteous, professional manner
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Analytical and diagnostic ability capable to interpreting patient physicians orders for physical therapy patients and developing an effective treatment plan as needed
- Relates well with other staff members and various other hospital personnel in a courteous professional manner at all times
- Utilizes good oral and written communication skills sufficient to meet the demands of the job
- Must conform with all HIPAA and other confidentiality regulations as required by the job, department, or hospital
- Demonstrate lifting a 25-pound box from the floor
- Receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable
