Job Summary
Lead hydrologic and geomorphic field investigations supporting stream and wetland restoration planning and assessment across the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Plan, coordinate, and conduct ground and surface water monitoring activities, installing and maintaining hydrologic stations to ensure accurate long-term data collection. Operate advanced equipment including GNSS, total stations, and 3D scanners to evaluate geomorphic change, while managing large environmental datasets using specialized software to quantify discharge and water surface elevation. Conduct QA/QC reviews of water-quality records, create maps and visualizations for scientific reports, and prepare technical documentation for park managers and stakeholders. This 45-week, full-time project begins early October with a 4/10 flexible schedule.
Required Qualifications
- At least one year of experience conducting hydrologic or physical science monitoring and data collection in field settings
- Operating and maintaining instruments such as groundwater loggers, stream gauges, water‐quality sondes, and associated telemetry systems
- Analyzing hydrologic, hydrometric, and water‐quality datasets
- Preparing scientific reports, maps, graphs, and other technical communication materials
- Applying hydrologic principles to evaluate impacts of restoration activities or land‐use changes on aquatic resources
- Experience using GIS and GNSS software and technology to collect spatial data and create and maintain geospatial databases
- Experience with geodatabase design
- Understanding of geographic coordinate systems, projections and transformations
- Must provide a valid driver's license
- Possess a clean driving record
- Must complete a Department of Interior (DOI) Background Investigation (BI) or submit paperwork to the National Park Service human resources indicating an active and fully adjudicated BI has already been completed prior to beginning position
- Must be able to lift and transport equipment, tools, and monitoring instruments weighing up to 30 lbs
- Ability to work in wet or adverse weather
- Ability to navigate steep slopes and stream environments
- Ability to work on early morning, evening, or tidal‐dependent field schedules
- Ability to sit, use hands, stand, walk, bend
- Specific vision abilities to include close and distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
Desired Qualifications
- Experience and competence using land survey equipment (e.g, RTK GNSS, total station, 3D scanners) to establish or verify station datums and evaluate geomorphic change
