Job Summary
Physical Geography Technician needed to provide technical support for Physical Geography teaching and research activities, maintain and calibrate field and laboratory equipment, organize equipment stores and inventories, assist with safe use of lab/field gear including the departmental vehicle, support geospatial and surveying activities, prepare equipment for fieldwork and field trips, assist with research sample preparation, and support waste disposal under health and safety guidelines. Requires laboratory/workshop experience, broad geography tech skills, strong teamwork and IT literacy, and GCSE-level Maths/English. Fixed-term, 12 months, full-time at Newcastle University.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant work experience in a laboratory or workshop setting
- A broad working knowledge of Geography technical skills, laboratory and field equipment
- Health and Safety procedures understanding in lab/field environments
- Excellent team working skills
- Good IT literacy including MS Office
- Demonstrates technical and problem-solving capability
- Demonstrates good organisational skills
- Full UK Driving Licence (desirable)
- Educated to a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 9-4 (A–C) including Mathematics and English
