Job Summary
Prepare course objectives, outlines, and materials following territory curriculum guidelines to instruct secondary students in physical education. Administer standardized tests, record attendance, and maintain accurate student records while enforcing classroom discipline and policies. Confer with parents, counselors, and administrators to resolve behavioral and academic problems, and guide students with adjustment issues or special interests. Plan and supervise extracurricular activities, field trips, and experiential learning projects while ensuring safe equipment use. Attend professional meetings and workshops to maintain competence, collaborate on program revisions, and perform administrative duties as required. This ten-month position supports student preparation for advanced education and the job market within the Virgin Islands school system.
Required Qualifications
- Certification with the Virgin Islands Board of Education
- Certification to teach in the United States Virgin Islands
- Bachelor's degree, inclusive of thirty (30) semester credits in Education, and at least 30 semester credits in core academic area
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in the core academic area and thirty (30) semester credits in Education
- Possession of a valid Virgin Islands Board of Education certification in core content area of Physical Education
- Knowledge of the theory, principles and techniques of instruction in a specific content area
- Knowledge of a variety of instructional strategies
- Knowledge of the education laws, policies, rules and regulations of the United States Virgin Islands
- Knowledge of the principles of teaching and classroom control
- Ability to isolate behavioral and adjustment problems and to recommend methods of helping to solve the problems
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all persons contacted during the course of the work
- Ability to plan lessons, coordinate resources, and manage time on task
- Ability to create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Ability to cooperate and share professionally with members of the administration and other staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with state and federal law
