Job Summary
Lead physical education, fitness, and recreation activities for children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developing engaging programs tailored to individual abilities and goals. Participate alongside students in daily physical activities, including jogging, sports, and structured recreation, while modifying exercises to ensure successful participation across different skill levels. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to support social, emotional, and behavioral development, and assist students in community outings and special events. This hands-on role involves working Monday through Friday during the school year and follows a 220-day annual schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- Degrees in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Recreation, Education, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field
- Comfortable participating in regular physical activity with students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Valid driver's license
- Willingness to learn about autism and Boston Higashi School's educational approach
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience working with autism is preferred, but not required
- Experience working with children or young adults
- Experience in physical education, recreation, fitness, athletics, coaching, camps, or similar programs
- Experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities
