Job Summary
Perform venipuncture, capillary draws, blood cultures, and ECG exams for patients, including difficult pediatric and geriatric cases. Process specimens and manage electronic medical record entries to ensure compliant billing and accurate result reporting. Retrieve test results for physicians and escalate discrepancies to leadership. Dispose of hazardous materials per protocol and monitor laboratory supply inventory. Requires phlebotomy certification, one year of hospital experience, and proficiency with Cerner or Epic systems. Pay range $16.60–$27.45 per hour with comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification from an accredited medical phlebotomy program, medical assistant program or equivalent
- A minimum of one year of experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types in a hospital setting
- ECG experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting
Desired Qualifications
- Prior work experience in pathology, laboratory support or health-related position
- Familiarity with medical terminology, billing and coding
- Ability to effectively use a personal computer and working knowledge to perform data entry and analysis
- Experience with Cerner and Epic Healthcare Information system
