Job Summary

Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on adults, neonates, and pediatric patients; collect urine specimens; and perform EKGs on adult and pediatric patients. Process lab specimens, navigate the computer system with minimal errors, and verify patient demographics using two identifiers. Obtain finger stick collections, identify and label specimens, and instruct patients on urine and stool procedures. Inventories supplies, prepares stations, and troubleshoot LIS issues while adhering to infection control and safety standards. Maintain a pace of 4-6 patients per hour, travel to draw stations, and function as an effective team member. Schedule includes a 40-hour week Monday through Friday (8:30 am to 5:00 pm) with rotating Saturdays (8:00 am to 1:00 pm).

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ years of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office and demonstrates solid computer skills
  • 6+ months of experience of drawing blood in a hospital, doctor's office or clinic
  • Ability to work rotating Saturdays
  • Ability to travel to other draw stations (Mount Kisco, Briarcliff Manor, Yorktown Heights)
  • Access to reliable transportation and valid US driver's license
  • Must possess solid interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with co-workers, Management Staff, and Physicians
  • Must be able to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member, balancing both the support of the physician(s) and following the financial policies established by Optum
  • Demonstrate professionalism in appearance and actions with patients, staff, Physicians and Administrators always
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • Travel to all other draw stations and perform all tasks
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting
  • Ability to work independently and maintain good judgment and accountability
  • Ability to acclimate working on a small or large team
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others
  • Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment

Desired Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy certified
  • 1+ years of phlebotomy experience (Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement)
  • Previous laboratory experience
  • EKG experience
  • Pediatrics Phlebotomy experience
