Job Summary

Collect blood specimens via venipuncture, skin puncture, and heel sticks, and gather non-blood samples including urine, sputum, and throat cultures. Verify patient identity, check requisitions for accuracy, and assemble necessary equipment before drawing blood or processing specimens. Accession samples, record collection details, and perform waived or moderately complex testing while following quality control procedures. Handle receptionist duties, answer patient inquiries, and maintain a clean, organized work area. Assist in training interns and support various clinical areas as needed while adhering to all laboratory policies and safety protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • High School / GED
  • Graduation from a Phlebotomy technical training program
  • Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification
  • 1+ years of phlebotomy experience
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology obtained through previous medical practice experience (up to 1 year)
  • Proficiency in the use of Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proven solid interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
