Job Summary
Collect blood specimens via venipuncture, skin puncture, and heel sticks while verifying patient identity and test requisitions. Assemble collection equipment, process non-blood samples like urine and sputum, and accessions specimens for laboratory testing. Perform waived or moderately complex testing, run quality control reports, and maintain accurate records of specimen volumes. Assist in training interns, perform reception duties, and ensure adherence to safety protocols and laboratory policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification or has experience completed at least 100 venipunctures
- Access to reliable transportation
- Must pass a drug test before beginning employment
Desired Qualifications
- Graduate from a Phlebotomy technical training program
- CPR Certification
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Knowledge of medical terminology obtained through previous medical practice experience (up to 1 year)
- Proficiency in the use of Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
