Job Summary
Collect blood specimens using venipuncture, skin puncture, and heel sticks, while gathering non-blood samples like urine and sputum. Verify patient identity, check requisitions for accuracy, and assemble necessary equipment including tourniquets and collection devices. Perform venipuncture by applying antiseptic, inserting needles, and labeling samples for processing. Accession specimens, record collection requests, and answer patient questions regarding test orders. May perform waived or moderately complex testing, run quality control reports, and troubleshoot lab instruments. Assist in training interns, perform receptionist duties, and maintain a clean work area with proper biohazard safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be available for weekend shifts
- Must be available for holiday shifts
- Must pass a drug test
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from a Phlebotomy technical training program
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification
- 1+ years of phlebotomy experience
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Knowledge of medical terminology obtained through previous medical practice experience (up to 1 year)
- Proficiency in the use of Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Proven solid interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
