Job Summary

Greet patients, verify identities, and explain the phlebotomy procedure to ensure safety and accuracy during blood collection. Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages, preparing specimens for transport and maintaining detailed records in the laboratory information system. Adhere to strict infection control protocols, including proper PPE use, sharps disposal, and equipment sterilization, while monitoring patients for adverse reactions and providing post-procedure care advice. Collaborate with laboratory staff and nurses to ensure smooth department operations, maintain inventory levels, and offer mentorship to new team members. Work full-time in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and blood donation centers.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precise blood collection and specimen handling
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment as needed
  • Ability to handle potentially stressful situations with professionalism and composure

Desired Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) by a recognized certifying body, such as the National Healthcare Association (NHA), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Previous experience in a clinical setting, particularly in phlebotomy
