Job Summary
Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor handling venipuncture and specimen processing in a hospital laboratory schedule (24 hours weekly, 3 days, 6:30am-2pm). Performs clerical/reception duties, receives and directs patient specimens, ensures proper labeling, EMR data entry, infection control adherence, HIPAA/OSHA compliance, and coordination with nursing and lab staff. Requires high school diploma, completion of a phlebotomy program, and phlebotomy certification or eligibility within one year. Must have 1-3 years of hospital phlebotomy experience; strong English communication and organizational skills preferred. Duties include specimen collection from diverse patient ages, identifying patients with two identifiers, preparing and delivering specimens, maintaining sample integrity, and responding to STAT/urgent collection requests while maintaining patient care and safety.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate
- Successful completion of approved phlebotomy program
- Phlebotomy certification or certification eligibility (certification required within one year of hire)
- Minimum of 1-3 years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital laboratory setting
- Excellent customer service and phlebotomy skills
- Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision
