Job Summary
Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick) according to established procedures. Identifies patients and labels specimen tubes at bedside, prints labels, and uses handheld systems to access patient orders. Prioritizes STAT draws and ensures timely transport to the lab. Utilizes NCC lists and computer systems for order entry and data accuracy. Maintains workspace and safety, assists co-workers, and may train new employees or student interns. May also serve as receptionist in outpatient lab when required. Emphasis on correct technique, patient comfort, infection control, and adherence to departmental procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum education: four (4) years of high school education preferred
- One (1) year of full-time experience preferred
- Certification or certification eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred
