Job Summary
Perform phlebotomy and urine specimen collection on patients ranging from minimally to critically ill, utilizing aseptic technique and judgment in site selection. Process laboratory specimens including centrifugation and aliquoting, conduct glucose tolerance testing, and assist in training personnel. Convey patient intentions with empathy while handling emergencies such as fainting or convulsions. Assist in disinfecting and closing the phlebotomy room at the end of each shift. This part-time PRN floating role between Clermont and Tavares VA clinics requires BLS certification and two years of phlebotomy experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate
- certified phlebotomy training program
- Minimum 2 years experience in phlebotomy in an inpatient or outpatient setting
- Experience with accessioning of laboratory specimens
- Experience with processing of laboratory specimens
- Capable of reading standard operating procedures and adhering them to the current laboratory processes
- Communicate clearly the daily status and problems about the laboratory output to team members and senior management of the service
- Computer literate
- BLS (American Heart Association)
