Job Summary
Ensure accurate specimen collection, labeling, and handling by interpreting provider test orders and following standard operating procedures. Utilize HIS and LIS software for patient registration, test order entry, and sample processing while identifying and correcting defects before they reach the next step. Maintain a clean environment, support patient comfort through compassionate care using the AIDET model, and operate technical equipment per approved protocols. Manage inventory quantities and review expiration dates for all supplies. Assist with team member and student training under supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Accurate interpretation of provider test orders
- Proficiency in HIS and LIS software systems
- Knowledge of department safety procedures
- Knowledge of regulatory agency policies
- Ability to collect specimens for acceptability
- Ability to determine specimen rejections according to established guidelines
- Ability to accurately label aliquot samples
- Ability to recognize and correct defects before they are passed on
- Ability to operate and maintain technical equipment
- Ability to maintain quantities and review expiration dates of supplies
- Ability to assist with training of team members and students
- Ability to model compassionate, patient-centered care
- Ability to address patient concerns with empathy
