Job Summary
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages following established protocols and safety guidelines. Verify patient identity, ensure proper specimen labeling and handling, and maintain cleanliness and sterilization of equipment to comply with infection control standards. Document procedures and maintain accurate records of blood draws and patient interactions in the hospital information system while collaborating with the healthcare team to coordinate schedules and address patient concerns. This role supports diagnostic testing and patient care at Larkin Community Hospital, requiring BLS certification and strong communication skills to reduce patient anxiety and promote cooperation.
Required Qualifications
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician from an accredited program
- Knowledge of standard infection control practices and safety procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Effective communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to follow strict infection control protocols
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems
