Job Summary

Perform venipuncture collections and process specimens including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, and packaging for transport. Enter physician orders into multiple systems, verify test result receipt, and retrieve patient information while adhering to departmental protocols. Manage lab reception and clerical duties, review refrigerator temperatures, and maintain QC/QA records through the Corrective Action Log. Communicate specimen procurement issues to laboratory staff and physicians, ensure biohazard waste compliance, and order or maintain supply inventory. Schedule varies between 4am and 10:30am start times with shifts ending by 7pm, alternating inpatient and outpatient settings every other weekend.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting or CMA certification
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be available for weekend shifts
  • Must be available for Saturday and Sunday shifts
  • Must be able to work between 4am and 10:30am start times
  • Must be able to work between 8am and 7pm end times
  • Must be able to alternate between inpatient and outpatient
  • Must be able to function as part of a highly effective team
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Must be able to perform venipuncture collection

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient's types
  • Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge
  • Familiar with medical EMR systems
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
