Job Summary
Phlebotomist collects blood specimens by venipuncture and micro-collection techniques for inpatients and outpatients under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor. Ensures proper patient identification, confirms orders and tests, and enters data in the laboratory system. Performs specimen processing, ensures specimen integrity, and conducts daily point-of-care quality checks (glucometer performance and temperature charts) when assigned to outpatient locations. Educates patients prior to procedures, communicates results and follow-up instructions as needed, and assists with workflow optimization to meet established turnaround times. Serves as a preceptor to students and new employees and collaborates with other departments to implement procedures. Maintains confidentiality and adheres to corporate compliance policies. Maintains readiness for safety procedures and disaster response as pertain to the work area.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1 to 2 years of phlebotomy experience preferred; training program considered
- BLS through The American Heart Association required
- Phlebotomy certification strongly preferred
- Valid State of Florida Driver's License (FDL) and MVR acceptable to PMC’s corporate automobile insurance carrier
