Job Summary
Collect clinical laboratory specimens, including venipunctures, and perform waived testing under general supervision. Process, store, and transport specimens according to laboratory requirements while managing patient registration, order entry, and billing verification. Clarify pre-analytical test requirements and explain proper collection procedures to patients. Maintain inventory, ensure a meticulous work area, and assist in training new staff. Provide on-call and mobile service, traveling to sites within 25 miles as needed. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of specimen requirements and collection devices.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 6 months to 2 years related experience and/or training
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Knowledge of Word Processing software
- Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities
- Certification required by the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support to include adult, child and infant
Desired Qualifications
- Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently may be required based on service location
- 6 months to 2 years related experience and/or training preferred
