Job Summary
Perform venipunctures on inpatient and outpatient populations, including therapeutic phlebotomies, while adhering to hospital policies and procedures. Register and order specimens into the LIS system, verify patient and test data, and generate barcode labels. Process specimens through centrifugation, aliquoting, and labeling, then package and deliver samples to referral laboratories or appropriate departments. Monitor workflow using the specimen tracker and maintain accurate records of all processes performed. Manage inventory levels for supplies and equipment, ensuring proper storage in a neat and orderly manner.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of phlebotomy training program
- phlebotomy certification
- ASCP certification/eligible
- SunQuest
- Epic
- sufficient dexterity to manipulate instrumentation
- Ability to read, understand and follow written procedures
- Ability to communicate adequately with all laboratory clients
- Basic clerical/data entry skills
- Excellent client relations skills
- 24 Hours, Overnight, 9p-5a
- Every Other Weekend
