Job Summary
Obtain and prepare specimens for analysis while performing various screening tests in an acute care environment. Collaborate with nursing and clinical teams to respond to codes and traumas, ensuring specimen integrity under urgent conditions. Verify test requisitions against clinical documentation, apply accurate specimen labeling, and perform blood collection using venipuncture, heel sticks, and peripheral line techniques. Maintain aseptic technique and infection control standards while prioritizing workload across multiple inpatient units. Perform EKGs and transmit results to support diagnostic and emergent care needs. Resolve complex test orders by coordinating with providers and laboratory personnel, escalating unresolved issues appropriately. Work sustained shifts including weekends and after-hours, with potential on-call requirements to respond to organizational needs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS), or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
- Six (6) months phlebotomy experience in an acute care setting
- Regular and sustained attendance
- Working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts
- On-call work availability
Desired Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Science Related Field
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent Phlebotomy Certification
