Job Summary
Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to collect blood specimens in the Acute, Post-acute, Clinic, and Field Service areas. Process specimens for testing, troubleshoot physician orders, and manage inventory as directed. Collaborate with clinical counterparts to ensure patient identification, labeling, and accessioning meet Clinical laboratory Standards Institute guidelines. Mentor students and new employees while functioning as an autonomous end user of Geisinger business applications. Conduct root cause analyses to support continuous improvement objectives and escalate issues to leadership as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
- Related work experience
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- US Army 68W Combat Medic
- US Army 18D
- US Navy Hospital Corpsman
- related medical specialties
- Geisinger's School of Phlebotomy Program
