Job Summary
Phlebotomist draws and collects blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. May conduct interviews, take vital signs, draw and test blood samples to screen donors at blood bank. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Minimum requirements include being 18 years of age and obtaining Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire; strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required; emotional maturity and ability to work under stress are important. Preferred qualifications include completion of an acceptable phlebotomy training program and up to 6 months hospital phlebotomy experience. Skills in learning and utilizing various software applications are also desirable.
