Job Summary
Obtain blood samples, urine drug screens, and capillary blood gases from patients, residents, and clients across all ages using appropriate techniques. Transport specimens, requisitions, and supplies between clinics, offices, and the laboratory using a hospital or personal vehicle. Perform home draws at contracted residences and nursing homes, while assessing patients prior to glucose tolerance tests. Process specimens by centrifuging, separating, or freezing them to ensure integrity, and accurately label all samples with bar codes or patient identifiers. Maintain sanitary phlebotomy trays, inventory supplies, and monitor refrigerator temperatures. Document refrigerator/freezer temperatures, inventory stock, and notify laboratory personnel for STAT specimens. Use the Laboratory Information System to order tests, print labels, and fax results. Address ABNs with confidentiality, obtain diagnosis codes, and participate in quality assurance programs.

- Ability to lift, move, carry, push or pull up to 30 lbs using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment
- Ability to comply with specified isolation procedures according to policies and procedures
- Ability to use personal protective equipment to ensure safety and infection control
- Ability to comply with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of phlebotomy/medical assistant program with phlebotomy internship rotation
- EMT experience
- Phlebotomy internship rotation
- Personal vehicle (if hospital vehicle unavailable)
