Job Summary
Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques to collect blood specimens promptly, while processing, preparing, and transporting samples for testing. Execute waived laboratory testing and obtain specimens for microbiology, ensuring positive identification of all patient samples and rotating stock to prevent outdated supplies. Provide proper patient collection instructions for urine and stool, instruct patients on post-phlebotomy care, and dispose of bio-hazardous materials correctly. Troubleshoot issues related to specimen collection, testing, and equipment, and locate missing lab orders. Interact with patients and healthcare providers compassionately, register patients following standard work procedures, and solve problems efficiently. Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow all compliance training, including HIPAA and OSHA regulations. Travel 75% of the time between Seattle locations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Completion of a Phlebotomy Certificate program through an accredited school
- Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist (MA-Pbt) certification from the state to perform capillary and venous invasive procedures for blood withdrawal under the supervision of a health care practitioner
- BLS certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
- 1+ years of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office and demonstrates solid computer skills
- 1+ years of experience in excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others
- Ability to travel 75% as needed to locations below: Optum- Madison 904 7th Ave, (Second Floor Laboratory) Seattle WA 98104 -Main Office, Optum-Ballard 1448 NW Market St., Ste. 200, Seattle, WA 9810, Optum-Northgate Plaza9709 3rd Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98115
- Ability to use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects. Occasionally, lifting to 50 pounds and carrying up to 24 pounds may be required
- Access to reliable transportation and travel to other locations
- Must follow written and oral instructions and complete routine tasks independently
- Complete all compliance training, including but not limited to HIPAA/Privacy/Confidentiality/Non-Discrimination/Harassment/Integrity Statement and signed Agreements
- Ensures confidentiality of patient information by following HIPAA guidelines
- Attends training to meet job position requirements Div. of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), OSHA, L&I, and other state/federal regulations
- Have regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to travel to other locations when needed
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be available for weekend shifts
- Must be able to travel 75% of the time to other offices as needed
