Job Summary
Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens, process samples for testing, and transport them while troubleshooting equipment issues. Conduct waived laboratory testing, obtain specimens for microbiology, and instruct patients on post-phlebotomy care and urine or stool collection. Maintain a clean environment, manage supply stock rotation, and locate missing lab orders. Travel 75% of the time between Optum-Madison, Optum-Ballard, and Optum-Northgate locations in Seattle. Work a 40-hour week Monday through Friday with possible Saturday and holiday rotations. Adhere to all standard of work protocols, HIPAA guidelines, and safety regulations while promoting a positive work environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Completion of a Phlebotomy Certificate program through an accredited school
- Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist (MA-Pbt) certification from the state to perform capillary and venous invasive procedures for blood withdrawal under the supervision of a health care practitioner
- BLS certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
- 1+ years of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office and demonstrates solid computer skills
- 1+ years of experience in excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others
- Ability to travel 75% as needed to locations below: Optum- Madison 904 7th Ave, (Second Floor Laboratory) Seattle WA 98104 -Main Office, Optum-Ballard 1448 NW Market St., Ste. 200, Seattle, WA 9810, Optum-Northgate Plaza9709 3rd Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98115
- Ability to use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects. Occasionally, lifting to 50 pounds and carrying up to 24 pounds may be required
- Access to reliable transportation and travel to other locations
- Must follow written and oral instructions and complete routine tasks independently
- Complete all compliance training, including but not limited to HIPAA/Privacy/Confidentiality/Non-Discrimination/Harassment/Integrity Statement and signed Agreements
- Ensures confidentiality of patient information by following HIPAA guidelines
- Attends training to meet job position requirements Div. of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), OSHA, L&I, and other state/federal regulations
- Have regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to travel to other locations when needed
