Job Summary
Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens, process samples for testing, and transport them to the lab. Conduct waived laboratory testing, provide patient collection instructions, and instruct patients on post-phlebotomy care. Troubleshoot specimen collection and testing issues, locate missing orders, and properly dispose of bio-hazardous materials while maintaining a clean work environment. Travel 75% of the time between Optum-Madison, Optum-Ballard, and Optum-Northgate Plaza locations. Work a 40-hour week Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm PST, with possible Saturday and holiday rotations.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Completion of a Phlebotomy Certificate program through an accredited school
- Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist (MA-Pbt) certification from the state to perform capillary and venous invasive procedures for blood withdrawal under the supervision of a health care practitioner
- BLS certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
- 1+ years of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office and demonstrates solid computer skills
- 1+ years of experience in excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others
- Ability to travel 75% as needed to locations below: Optum- Madison 904 7th Ave, (Second Floor Laboratory) Seattle WA 98104 -Main Office, Optum-Ballard 1448 NW Market St., Ste. 200, Seattle, WA 9810, Optum-Northgate Plaza9709 3rd Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98115
- Ability to use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects. Occasionally, lifting to 50 pounds and carrying up to 24 pounds may be required
- Access to reliable transportation and travel to other locations
- Must follow written and oral instructions and complete routine tasks independently
- Complete all compliance training, including but not limited to HIPAA/Privacy/Confidentiality/Non-Discrimination/Harassment/Integrity Statement and signed Agreements
- Ensures confidentiality of patient information by following HIPAA guidelines
- Attends training to meet job position requirements Div. of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), OSHA, L&I, and other state/federal regulations
- Have regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to travel to other locations when needed
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be available for weekend shifts
- Must be able to travel 75% of the time to other offices as needed
