Job Summary
Collect blood samples via venipuncture for patients of all ages, process specimens for testing, and prepare samples for reference laboratories. Monitor quality control on supplies and equipment, perform insurance verifications, and check in patients while collecting co-payments. Deliver stat results to providers, input orders into electronic health records, and coordinate courier pickups for critical specimens. Maintain logs for phlebotomy, temperature, and critical results, and ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and safety policies. Travel to other clinic locations as needed and resolve missing encounters or test issues.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Certificate from accredited school for Phlebotomy and/or at least two (2) years' experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Laboratory Assistant or Preferred Patient Care Technician (PCT)
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers
- Level I fingerprint clearance card: current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment
- Reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday
- Valid driver's license (if driving during work hours)
- Compliance with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements
- Current and valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance card (must be received within 30 days after hire or transfer)
- Influenza vaccination (subject to exemptions and accommodations when required by law)
- Drug testing prior to employment
- Subject to post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow up drug and alcohol testing
Desired Qualifications
- Certificate from accredited school for Phlebotomy
- Five (5) or more years' experience as Phlebotomist or Medical Laboratory Assistant
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to speak, read and write in both languages
