Job Summary
Perform routine phlebotomy via venipuncture or finger stick while preparing patients, explaining procedures, and verifying information before drawing blood. Gather testing materials including needles and vials, label specimens accurately using the laboratory information system, and complete necessary intake vitals and point-of-care testing. Follow strict infection control and sterile procedures, dispose of needles safely, and maintain patient privacy per HIPAA standards. Assist with patient flow, escort specimens, stock supply closets, and communicate with clinical teams to ensure equipment and logbooks are maintained.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or the equivalent
- One year of Phlebotomy experience performing venipunctures and finger sticks
- Practical knowledge of information system operations
- Phlebotomy Certificate and/or Certification in Medical Assisting or equivalent experience
- Appropriate interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, physicians, and other customers of the Cancer Center
- Strong verbal communication skills in English language
- Strong writing skills in the English language to include, but not limited to, legibility, neatness and completeness of thought
- Detail oriented
- Capable of handling stress from irregular workload
- Demonstrate businesslike and professional attitude at all times
- Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
