Phlebotomist

Perform blood collection and obtain patient specimens for laboratory testing, including blood cultures and compatibility samples. Accession and receive samples into the VA laboratory information system, then transport specimens to the lab, noting special handling requirements. Instruct patients on proper collection of 24-hour urine and other home samples, while measuring and recording volumes. Answer phone inquiries, direct calls to other laboratory sections, and check patients into the laboratory using the numbering system. Maintain effective customer relations with patients, families, and medical center employees, while providing general clerical support and stocking specialized supplies. Work Monday through Friday in alternating tours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Danville VA Medical Center.
