Job Summary
Perform venipunctures to obtain blood samples, prepare specimens for transport, and conduct waived testing while ensuring patient safety and comfort. Maintain a clean environment, adhere to infection-control procedures, and manage electronic health records by documenting patient data and verifying insurance. Schedule appointments, check patients in and out, assess charges, and collect fees including copayments and co-insurance. Take patient phone calls to follow up on requests and maintain current knowledge of phlebotomy techniques. This role supports the Clinical Services team in a fast-paced setting within western North Carolina.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification
- 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinic setting
- Knowledge of venipuncture and skin puncture techniques
- Knowledge of infection control procedures
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
- Excellent communication and patient interaction skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure
- Proficient with medical office technology and equipment, including computers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and phone systems, as well as MS Excel/Word/Outlook, Electronic Health Record systems and automated medical scheduling and billing programs
- Effective management of multiple duties and responsibilities in a clinical setting
- Full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye–hand coordination
- Standing and walking frequently and occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Some travel within western North Carolina
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with racially and ethnically diverse populations, low-income populations and people experiencing homelessness
- At least one year of experience in a primary care or public health setting functioningat the full extent of her/his training
- Experience with eClinicalWorks
- Prior work in performance or quality improvement
