Job Summary

Conduct research on enzyme discovery, function, and kinetics assessment for seaweed polysaccharide modifications. Recombinantly produce microbial S1 sulfatases and establish optimal reaction criteria to create new upgrading options for seaweeds. Perform systematic experimental work combined with quantitative interpretation, including in silico molecular docking and dynamics in a team effort. Characterize heterologous enzyme production, develop assays, and assess structure-function relationships. Supervise and teach BSc and MSc students while communicating effectively in an international, collaborative environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Practical experience in detailed characterization of heterologous enzyme production
  • Understanding of reaction kinetics and enzyme protein characteristics
  • Solid foundation in molecular biology in relation to enzyme production
  • Theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in enzyme assays and enzyme characterization
  • Strong interest in developing the novel type of applied enzyme technology in focus in the PhD project
  • Experience with state-of-the-art protein/DNA construct design software and protein engineering
  • Molecular biology
  • Documented practical experience with heterologous enzyme protein expression
  • Classic protein assessment
  • Systematic reaction assessment
  • Practical experience with enzyme assays
  • Kinetic characterization of enzyme reactions
  • Assessment of structure-function relationships of enzymes
  • Computational skills in enzyme discovery and characterization
  • Practical experience with research planning and documentation using electronic lab book systems
  • Two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree
  • Collaborative and inquisitive mindset
  • Eagerness to develop skills and advance in the other areas
  • Highly self-motivated

  • Ability to communicate well in English both verbally and in writing
