Job Summary
Design and execute experiments characterizing coffee ferments via metagenomics, metabolomics, and sensory analysis, while conducting ethnographic research to trace microbial origins. Perform bioinformatic analysis, data integration, and statistical modeling, then visualize results for diverse scientific audiences. Publish findings in international journals and present work at conferences, coordinating activities with collaborators and external partners including the University of Cambridge. Manage public engagement and outreach activities while maintaining reproducible research documentation. This three-year PhD scholarship begins January 1, 2027, with a salary based on the collective agreement.
Required Qualifications
- Some experience in microbiology
- Experience or interest in ethnographic research
- Some experience in generating and analysing metagenomic and metabolomic data
- A strong interest in microbial ecology and evolution as well as flavour as a form of chemical communication
- You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree
