PhD Position Delocalized Quantum Magnetism in Atomic Spin Assemblies
On-site · Delft, South Holland, The Netherlands
Job Summary
PhD project applying STM-based assembly of spin structures to study delocalized s-shell magnetism and interactions with f-shell and nuclear spins. You will perform measurements with IETS and ESR in the STM, explore coherent quantum dynamics of electron, orbital, and nuclear magnetic moments across isotopes, and contribute to ongoing work on single-shot nuclear readout and ENDOR. The position is at TU Delft, Delft University of Technology, with a 4-year employment framework (two contracts) and a dedicated relocation support package. The role emphasizes hands-on experimental physics, advanced measurement techniques, and the development of quantum-spin-physics understanding within a collaborative academic environment.
Required Qualifications
- MSc degree in Physics or a closely related discipline
- Solid understanding of quantum mechanics, in particular spin physics
- Experience with experimental research, preferably including vacuum and cryogenic techniques
- Experience with coding, preferably in Python
- Teamworking mentality and ability to work independently
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written)
